Are we all a little bit nuts?

August 18th, 2008 · No Comments

Reader’s Digest has this neat article up on their website called: Are You Normal or Nuts?. The article is pretty funny to read because they took reader questions and showed them to psychologists to find out if the behaviors described are just normal or if the person truly is nuts and needs to find some help.

Some of the quirks mentioned include retail therapy (shopping to make yourself feel better) and fear of “jumping”.  I like the fear of jumping one because it is interesting since it is not the more common fear of heights.  The person said that they aren’t suicidal but they are afraid to go to high places for fear that they might jump to experience “flying” or “floating”.  The psychologist suggested sky-diving which I thought was a pretty cool response since it would let that person get the desire out of the way and also have a blast.

I have a healthy fear of heights myself, not really a fear of jumping but more of accidentally falling off but I think this is rather normal.  My dad always used to say that good pilots have a healthy respect for height, so even they aren’t immune to it.  We all aren’t exactly budding birds ready to take to wing so I guess its only natural to fear what isn’t natural for our bodies.

If after reading Are You Normal or Nuts? you feel a little bit depressed yourself, you should check out Reader’s Digest Laughs to make yourself feel a little bit better!
