I’ve been keeping up with at least the first couple of quarters of the pre-season Carolina Panthers game (my football team!) and they are looking pretty decent this year. There are definitely a few rough spots that still need to be ironed out but i’m excited about some of the changes.
One of my favorite changes which I hope ends up sticking as part of the pare-down to a 53-man roster is the addition of kickoff specialist Rhys Lloyd. John Kasay is a pretty good field goal kicker but he and Jason Baker are both pretty terrible at place kicking (the kick-off where it is set on a little stand). Rhys Lloyd on the other hand has been kicking touch backs and sub 10-yd line kicks consistently through the first 2 pre-season games. I actually like watching the kick-off just to see how far he kicks it.
In fact, in the first pre-season game he actually kicked it through the uprights and into the net (field goal!) on a kick-off. The fans gave him a standing ovation for that one! I can’t see how Coach Fox can ignore the kind of advantages having a good place kicker will give us as far as the starting field positions of the other team, but there is always a lot of competition for the 53 spots on a football team.
Only a few more weeks to go until the true games begin, and i’m looking forward to it in real life and also to see how my fantasy team does. This is my first year participating in the fantasy football league at work so I hope I do well.
