Back from Vacation-ville!

June 30th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I’m back from the New York and Washington D.C. vacation and back at work finally!

It has been a long week and a half of vacationing and now i’m ready for a vacation from my vacation.  What really stunk was getting back from vacation and then promptly getting a sinus/cold mess that has stuck with me for the last 2-3 days.  It seems to be fading ever so slowly though so hopefully i’ll be back on the up and up soon.

While I was gone a lot of interesting things happened such as the announcement of Diablo 3.  I watched the gameplay video and was inspired to go out and pick up the battlechest and run through Diablo 2 again.  I do not recommend this if games from the year 2000 hurt your eyes (Diablo 2 only has a resoultion of 640×480 and if you get the expansion you can get an amazingly crisp 800×600).  The game is still a happy clickfest with tons of randomly generated items.

Somehow the graphics bother me more now than when I last played it a few years ago, this is probably due to the fact that graphics continually evolve and in general have gotten a lot nicer since the year 2000.  Also, watching the Diablo 3 gameplay video then jumping into Diablo 2 is seeing a burger joint ad and then actually buying their product and seeing that the 16 year old employee doesn’t put it together nearly as nicely as the ad agency.

So, in my quest for entertaining hack and slash with graphics that don’t hurt my eyes too badly i’ve turned back to Dungeon Siege 2 and ordered it from Amazon for $10.45.  It should show up next week and then I can try it out and see if I can get into the game.

Wish me luck as I waste away the time waiting on Diablo 3.  Blizzard themselves admitted that they like to announce a game a year to a year and a half before its scheduled release, and then three years later…

Welcome back! It was sad not seeing blogs from you for a couple weeks. Thanks for coming down for Dad’s memorial service. It meant a lot to me.

[...] announced and this inspired me to pick up Diablo 2 to re-live the experience.  As I noted in my previous post on that topic, things didn’t turn out like i’d hoped and the graphics pained me more [...]
