Identity Theft and Its Impact

May 24th, 2008 · No Comments

Working in Information Technology over the years, I have seen several instances where numerous social security numbers were accidentally leaked. This can have a devastating impact on the people whose private information was leaked.

To me, losing someone’s information is disrespectful to their privacy and can also result in some serious repercussions that cause long-term problems for the individuals involved. That is why I always point to lifelock and how easy and cheap their service is.

Some people complain that what they do can be done by yourself for free but I always like to point out that if we were all actually persistent enough to do it ourselves then we wouldn’t need to pay someone else to do it. Case in point: automatic car washes. You can do it yourself at home for “free” but why bother when you value your time more than it costs? LifeLock is only $10 a month which is the same as using one of those touch free car washes (at least in my area) and the return is definitely much better than a clean car: peace of mind.

If my identity was stolen I would feel trapped and wouldn’t know where to begin other than canceling all of my credit cards and bank cards.  If the same thing happened with LifeLock they would assist me in every way possible to make things right and cover my expenses.
