Finally got around to seeing this last night. While it is a great movie, I think some people have over hyped it a bit so don’t go in thinking it will be anything but a fairly typical comic book movie plot. The effects were solid and the general story line is fine, but i’m definitely looking forward to a sequel where we can have more of Iron Man kicking tail in the nicer suit instead of the focus on the origin story like all first comic book movies have to do.
I will say that Robert Downey Jr. did an awesome job as iron man and is perfect for that role. Luckily all of the actors were signed on for 3 films from the get go and the sequel has already been announced for 2010. Gwyneth Paltrow was also great in her role as Tony Stark’s assistant Pepper. The movie also had a number of fabulous one-liners, especially ones from Tony Stark that kept the audience laughing. You’ll definitely have more fun at this movie than many other more serious flicks.
Part of the reason why I was not as wow’ed as others I think is that I really, really love the way they did the origin story in Batman Begins. Perhaps it’s just that I like Batman more because I grew up with the cartoon on TV and all of the campy Batman movies they were churning out. Batman Begins is one of my favorite movies of all-time, but I will say Iron Man is as solid as Spider Man 1 and the X-Men series so its definitely worth seeing.
Be sure to stay after the credits for a nice hint at what the next movie may involve!

I saw it this weekend… Thought it was great! Definitely could have been some more of him in the new suit, but thats the way things go with comic book movies.

I saw it Sunday - it was pretty awesome! I was mostly very impressed with Tony Stark’s apartment. I kept waiting for them to play “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath, but the moment they actually play it in is kind of wasted. Would have been perfect for the boss fight.
Holy crap - Gwyneth Paltrow - totally hot as Pepper. I’ve never seen her as a red head.
Everything else I have to say about this movie would contain spoilers, so I’m not going to ruin it for anyone. Just go see it, it’s great. And holy crap - stay after the credits.
