Short Straw

April 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

I’m a bit bitter lately about work as the rumors floating around the last few weeks had said they were going to finally fund some money for “market rates” that they had set a few years ago as a goal to get everyone’s salary up to to be more competitive with the private market.  As it is now, State employers see a fairly high turnover rate due to low salary amongst other things.

Well, found out recently that because of how various jobs are funded, only a few people in each department are going to get the pay raises (around 1/4 of the people).  This is going to create a lot of pay enmity and discord which isn’t going to help any since a lot already exists.  In case you’re wondering, no i’m not getting anything and probably never will because of how the various positions are funded and which ones are “state-funded” versus local money.  If positions are funded with local money, state budget increases to fund these “market rates” will never affect the local money funded positions.  It is like you have an upper-class and a lower-class of jobs, and if your job is locally funded even if you do exactly the same work as the next guy you get shafted.
