If you’ll recall when I blogged about RealRank a few months ago, it was a system that I was looking into using. After the first few weeks, the kinks in the system seemed to get resolved by IZEA’s excellent “Customer Love” team and I finally was able to get a RealRank for this blog.
Since that time i’ve kept the Izea Toolkit on my website so that I can keep track of visitors to my site and what kind of ranking I have relative to others in the blogging world. My RealRank has gotten as good as around 3000 and then shot back up to around 6000 depending on how many posts I write and how many visitors I draw in.
In my prior post I covered this, but the formula for RealRank is calculated as 70% daily unique visitors, 20% active daily inbound links, and 10% daily pageviews. If you’ll recall, Google’s PageRank algorithm relies almost entirely on active inbound links that have a higher PageRank “juice” to them. Google’s statistics often reflect poorly on well-trafficked but low-linked sites which is quite unfair. The IzeaRank swings almost entirely in the other direction and inbound links are only a small part of the calculation. Now, the focus is on the number of unique daily visitors. I think this approach is a somewhat better one in many ways because to me, actual traffic to your website is what matters the most - not how many links you purchased or exchanged in a link exchange!
An IzeaRank will move more often than Google’s PageRank does though, mainly because daily visitors can vary wildly depending on the topics that you write about and how well indexed your topics are into the various search engines. As time goes on and more and more bloggers are added to IZEARanks.Com, you will also see some fluctuation of your ranking since there are more sites to be compared too. I’m working on building my daily traffic now to try to reach a target RealRank of around 2500 by the end of the month!
