As you all know, the writer’s strike has been ongoing for a while and recently the Late Night talk show hosts finally came back to work. Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien do not have their writers, but David Letterman’s company Worldwide Pants made a side deal with the Writer’s Guild so he does have writers. One of the first shows he did he did a Top 10 List of things Writers want during the strike.
Here is my Top 10 List of “Things the Writers are doing During the Strike”
10. Making poorly written on strike signs that include such witty phrases as “Writer on Strike” and “WGA On Strike”.
9. Learning how to spell.
8. Inventing new forms of writing utensils. Current ideas include chopsticks and wasabe.
7. Picketing Microsoft for good measure. Heck, they did write Microsoft Word right?
6. Catching up on all the e-mails they’ve ignored for the last few years. Given that they are not allowed to write due to their guild contract, all replies are being made using video messages.
5. Thinking about not writing any more crappy TV shows and crappy movies (Gigli anyone? <– not a link to an Amazon Product page because that would be just WRONG for anyone to buy it on DVD!). However, since writers are not skilled at thinking, this task was quickly abandoned.
4. Working on their non-existent tan.
3. Learning how to eat at a sit-down restaurant instead of ordering take-out.
2. Attending CA (Caffeine Anonymous) meetings to try and break their coffee and soda addictions.
and the #1 thing the writers are doing during the strike? 1. Writing a reality TV show based on a world (queue Voice of God trailer guy) where there are writers, who are underpaid, who go on strike, whose reality tv show is then cancelled but can be released to DVD where it will make a ton of profit, of which they will receive 10 cents per million copies sold.
Ok so some of my ideas weren’t very funny, luckily I’m not a writer so we can only wait and see how the strike plays out and hope it is resolved soon so our favorite TV shows and movies don’t get waylaid or canceled by it.

Don’t shoot yourself in the foot at the end there! Your list wasn’t half bad. We should probably retire the “Gigli” jokes though. Affleck’s made up for it since then, I’d say. There are plenty of other Hollywood travesties out there I’m not missing because of this strike.
